Premium Rice showdown: Medium grain, 15-lb pack... Surprising test of flavor!

We recently opened a 15-pound pack of Nishiki Premium Rice, Medium Grain, eager to see if it lived up to its reputation. Upon first unboxing, the dense, polished grains immediately caught our attention. Steaming a fresh batch, we noticed the subtle floral notes that gradually emerged as it warmed—uncommon for medium-grain rice. Our initial impressions were corrected when a friend borrowed some for a sushi dinner and raved about its perfectly balanced chewiness, never having noticed such complexity in cheaper brands. After three meals, we’re believer. It performs as expected in texture but stands out for its unexpected depth of flavor, making us question our old assumptions about rice. A surprising find, indeed.
